UOI - Our exhibition groups are well and truly on their way. There will be time every day next week where both grade 5 and 6 will be working on researching, finding, and sorting out information for their inquiry. Last Thursday, Ms. Luz and Ms. Olivia as well as some staff came in as mentor volunteers to help guide and encourage our exhibition groups. A very warm thank you to all volunteers! Math - A deeper look into measurement of volume of objects will be looked at this week with some mental calculation skills involved! English - For BtN this week, students will find out about the latest ransomware attacks, which clearly links in with one of our exhibition groups. Students will also be given time to use the BtN archive to find any helpful resources for their exhibition. Chinese - 1. grammar teaching: “的、地、得” 练习与测试。 2. Chinese culture 元诗词《天净沙.秋思》3. writing practice <一个误会 >. Homework -- complete the composition <一个误会>. This is an interesting math problem. I have 3 math equations that are INCORRECT. Your job is to identify the error and come up with your own math equation that has the same kind of mistake.
Here is an example: If I wrote "35 + 29 = 54" you can see that I have added the tens incorrectly because I went from left to right with carrying over. You would then write something like "45 + 39 = 74" to show me that you understand the error of the problem. 1. 5x3+4 = 35 2. 75 - 66 = 141 3. 25 x 5 = 100 It has been an interesting week! On Wednesday, both grade 5 and 6 were able to check out the Canadian Internatonal's School PYP exhibition. This was a great experience for the students to get inspired for their own exhibtion coming up in mid-June! Both grade 5 and 6 have started to brainstorm and think about the issues they want to dwelve in for the upcoming exhibition.

Here is a list of upcoming important dates you may want to take note of. More details will be communicated as they come through: Student Led Conference - 9th June PYP Exhibition - 13th June Grade 6 Graduation - 14th June Here is a look at what we plan to do next week: Units Of Inquiry - For the summative task for this unit, students are researching a person who has promoted peace. They will work towards creating a biography of this person. Research skills, writing skills and presentation skills will be assessed. We will link this inquiry to our current UOI, which looks at maintaining peaceful strategies around the world. Create a PIE CHART showing your knowledge of percentages, fractions and angles. Here is an example of a Pie Chart or a Sector Graph: Your assignment is to ask 10 people on 'What makes a peaceful society?'
You need to come up with - Your own worded question - A range of answers (4 to 5) - Ask 20 people (can be in class/friends/family/yourself) After you have found your results, collate it into a PIE CHART. Some things you need to consider are - How many degrees in your pie chart would represent 1 person? (Remember how many degrees in a circle and how many people you interviewed) - What would each answer look like as a fraction or a percentage? When you produce your pie chart include * Title * Question * Answers * Label your pie chart with different colours * Include fraction/percentage in your answers Here is a look at what we covered this week:
UOI - Grade 6 sharedbehaviour management strategies for other primary classrooms during the UOI assembly. They will work in groups to come up with different ideas to help Hui Jia students and themselves deal with conflicting situations. Students researched different organisations that promote peace. This will lead into their next UOI/English assessment on creating a biography of someone who has helped resolve conflict. Math - Students continued looking at angles and geometry and will use their spatial awareness skills and problem solving skills to figure out complex problems in geometry. Chinese - 1.Text<饮食和健康>learn new words, grammar and skills of Reading comprehension. How to write letters: letters of the format and requirements, comprehension training. 2.UOI Chinese: how to write a script, script writing techniques and characteristics, Group work, write a script on the conflict and perform 。3 Chinese test.
